Privacy Policy for Kreeder
Effective Date: February 13, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how the Kreeder Chrome Extension (“Kreeder,” “the extension,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles your information.
Our core philosophy is simple: Kreeder does not collect, transmit, or sell any of your personal data. All processing happens locally on your machine.
1. Information Collection and Use
Kreeder is designed with a single purpose: to add RSVP (Rapid Serial Visual Presentation) speed reading to the Kindle Cloud Reader. To achieve this, the extension processes data strictly within your local browser environment.
We do not collect, store on external servers, or transmit any user data, personal information, or browsing history.
2. Website Content Processing (OCR)
To enable speed reading, Kreeder must read the text of your books.
- How it works: The extension captures an image of the rendered book page directly from the Kindle Cloud Reader (read.amazon.com) DOM. It then uses a local, bundled Optical Character Recognition (OCR) engine (Tesseract.js) to extract the text.
- Data Privacy: This image capture and text extraction process occurs entirely locally on your device. The captured images, extracted text, and your reading materials are never transmitted over the internet or sent to any external servers.
3. Permissions Used
Kreeder requests specific browser permissions solely to function as described in its single purpose. Here is exactly how we use them:
activeTab: Used to identify when you are on the Kindle Cloud Reader site (read.amazon.com). This ensures the extension only interacts with the currently active tab when you explicitly click the extension icon to open the speed reading popup.tabs: Used to facilitate communication between the extension’s background service worker and the Kindle Cloud Reader tab. When you trigger the speed reader, this permission allows the extension to identify the correct tab to extract the page image for OCR.storage: Used to save your speed reading preferences (such as words per minute, font size, word count per flash, and auto-advance settings). This data is saved locally usingchrome.storage.syncso your preferences are retained across sessions and synced across the devices where you are logged into Chrome.- Host Permissions (
amazon.com): Kreeder injects a content script on Amazon pages to interact with the Kindle Cloud Reader. This allows the extension to capture the book page image, convert it to a data URL for the popup to process, and programmatically click Kindle’s navigation controls to auto-advance pages. This access is strictly limited to amazon.com domains where the Kindle Cloud Reader is hosted.
4. Open Source and Complete Transparency
Kreeder is an open-source project. We believe in complete transparency, which is why the full source code for the extension is publicly available for anyone to review, audit, or build upon themselves. You can view the code repository on GitHub here: https://github.com/kenpodragon/SpreedKindle.
Kreeder does not use remote code. All necessary scripts and open-source libraries (Tesseract.js, jQuery, Bootstrap, Bootstrap Slider) are bundled directly within the extension package. We guarantee that neither Kreeder’s core extension code nor any of these included libraries transmit any data outside of your local browser. There is no tracking, no external data transmission, and no “phoning home.”
5. Developer Program Policy Disclosures
To comply with the Chrome Web Store Developer Program Policies, we certify the following:
- We do not sell or transfer user data to third parties.
- We do not use or transfer user data for purposes that are unrelated to the extension’s single purpose.
- We do not use or transfer user data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.
6. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated “Effective Date.” Since we do not collect your contact information, we cannot notify you directly of changes, so we encourage you to review this policy periodically.
